Effix Trade Pavilion
This project is a conceptual design for a competition held by Italcementi to showcase their new product Effix, an ultra-performance fiber-reinforced concrete. The competition was to design a trade pavilion for the seaside park of Varna, Bulgaria. Modularity, constructibility, mobility, easy assembly, and flexibility were the main design requirements. We chose fluidity and lightness for the aesthetics of our design to push the material properties of the Effix product and demonstrate its capabilities. The challenge was how to break down such aesthetics into some discrete, mobile, and reconfigurable parts. Looking around wondering what could be the answer to our question, we noticed that even the most complex organisms in nature are made from much simpler cells. We took the idea of cellular bifurcation and designed three modules that could be combined together and create infinite free-form configurations.
